Officer and new mom Luisa Urrea was called to a remote area in Colombia after locals found a starving baby in the bushes with part of her umbilical cord still attached.
Urrea immediately began breastfeeding the baby after finding her.
“I’m a new mother and I have milk and I recognized the needs that this poor little creature had,” Urrea told the press. "I think any woman would have given her nourishment in the same circumstances.”
Doctors say the hours-old infant would have died of hypothermia and starvation had Urrea not stepped in. The baby is expected to fully recover, and a family welfare agency is currently seeking adoptive parents for the newborn child.
