Officer Patrick Ray of the Rowlett Texas Police Department joined 2-year-old Bexley for tea time on July 17. The two are great friends after Ray saved her life when she began choking on a penny last year.
“She went completely limp,” Bexley’s mom Tammy told GMA. “It was more than falling asleep. She just collapsed. I looked in her eyes and she was so distant. We had no clue she had swallowed anything.”
Tammy called 911 and Officer Ray appeared. “He’s grabbing her from me and is trying to pry her mouth open with two hands. He did the finger sweep into her esophagus and a penny dropped down into it. That’s when we heard the most beautiful sound of her squeaking and coughing and crying.”
Today, one year later, the family and Officer Ray and his family are closer than ever. “I feel that I have no words, even after a year,” she said. “There’s no way to repay him.” (via GMA)
