After getting a call about crying and shouting in an apartment, police in Rome, Italy, arrived to find an elderly couple in their home. Jole, 84, and Michele, 94 (who have been married for 70 years), had begun crying while watching TV and wondering why there was so much hate in the news that day. As police waited for an ambulance to check in on the couple, one officer began to prepare dinner for the couple and the three of the others sat and chatted. The couple explained to the officers that they’d spent their lives together, but they didn’t get many visitors and their loneliness sometimes felt suffocating with only a television to keep them company.
